Facebook Chat

April 15, 2008

Running a website, I will be the first one to tell you implementing new features is not easy by any means. One website that is so on top of their game, Facebook. What started off as just a social networking website has been able to move into so many niches. Most of you probably don’t remember when Facebook didn’t even have photos! But, over the years, we have seen them ad photos, videos, blogs, events, apps and now chat. A few schools and networks have already gotten this feature, and the thing about FB i find so cool is how they are taking out the need of other apps. Maybe one day AOL/AIM won’t be used because we will all use Facebook chat.

So, this weekend we headed down to St. Louis to meet up with some friends.   We left Friday morning and took a nice tour of the midwest.  The best part of the drive is we got eat at Culvers.  Now, I know  In and Out and burger is the next best thing to free money, but in the Midwest that is our version.  The burgers are cooked in nothing but fatty butter, but the best menu item is the custard shakes.  They are soooo good.  I always get the same, vanilla custard shake with cookie dough.  culvers

I have been to St. Louis before and it is a really great city.  They have an area called the Central West End, which is basically there version of SoHo.  It has a ton of bars and restaurants, and the neighborhood is just great.  The best part of St. Louis is that it is home to Anheuser-Busch, so there is just alcohol sold everywhere.  Washington University is one of the few wet campuses in the country.  There is this amazing bar in the Central West End called Brennan’s.  Basically Brennan’s is an old speak easy that is now a bar/cigar bar.  But the coolest part is if you walk past the front desk down the basement steps, they actually have a hidden scotch bar, which is in the same space as the original.

Check out both.

Not the biggest Lil Wayne fan, but I love seeing great typography or logos in action.

rant

April 10, 2008

The problem with ebay is that there is not that same customer service or trust that comes from buying from a real store. There was a pair of shoes that I really wanted and I splurged on them, it was big purchase for me, but I felt I had earned it. So the shoes come and they just reek of mothballs, like really really bad.

So the seller tells me to try some stuff to get rid of the smell…no luck. So, finally he tells me to send them back which I do promptly. Upon recieving the shoes he tells me that they are not in the same condition I sent them in and now he has my money and the shoes and won’t give them back. It really eats me up cause it is just such a helpless feeling. There is a mutual trust you have between you and the seller, and now he has my money and his product back and I can do nothing but wait.

Its put me in a rut these past few days, makes you lose trust in people everytime someone takes advantage of you. Well I’ll keep my fingers crossed and see if they show up again.

keep an eye out…

Can’t spill to many details, but a new site design is coming soon!  Not to different, but with a little more spunk.  Keep checking back!

Wake up Mr. West!

April 7, 2008

Being from Chicago, we have to support anything that is our own. So, we have been avid supporters of Mr. West for a long time and we are happy for all his success. Also being from Chicago, we are lucky enough to have this tiny concert ever year called Lollapalooza. I have gone the past 3 years and each year the show has gotten better and better.

Year 1, saw The Killers and Weezer along side Billy Idol and many others.
Year 2, saw Kanye West and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers along side Gnarls Barkley,Blackalicious and Lyrics Born.
Year 3, saw Pearl Jam and Daft Punk along side Common and Spoon

And this year Lolla has just announced the coveted line up! Back again is Kanye with his protege Lupe Fiasco. I think they are sorta going back to their 90’s alternative roots and this year they have Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, and Rage Against the Machine. Should be interesting nonetheless.

Anyways back to my Kanye West post…
I have recently discovered that Kanye keeps and updates a blog daily.  The best part is that most of the blog features High design – clothes, furniture, toys, watches and anything that is cool and probably really expensive.  But, he does also give us a great peak into his life, travels, friends and oh yea music.

1-offs

April 7, 2008

A few of you have asked about 1-offs or being able to get 1 of your decks printed. Popdeck heard your words and this is something we are looking into.  Ideally, we would like to say that at one point in the near future, you can buy a 1-off of anyones board.  But, this requires a little work for us to get everything ready.

If any of you have any input or anything of that sort, just post a comment.

Call of Duty 4

April 7, 2008

This is going to be a short post, but all I have to say is wow.  A never thought my Halo 3 void could be filled until I played CoD4.  This game is so realistic its like a new level of realistic.  You can actually shoot threw walls to kill your enemies.  The game has a few drawbacks and the game play is much different, but overall it is really fun.  My only main complants are 1) being that the game is to impresonal, in Halo you cared more about winning and you could talk to the people on your team 2) the game gives me the worst headache.

Other then that, if anyone wants to play sometime let me know.

Sorry I’ve been MIA

April 7, 2008

Sorry I haven’t posted ina a bit, I am trying to get my partner/brother to start posting as well to keep you guys more up to date.

So as many of you noted we picked a Karmaloop winner.  It was a great design and we can’t wait to get one in our hands!  I know a few of you have voiced your concern about Karmaloop mutually promoting the winner, but we knew what we were getting into prior to the contest.  Karmaloop is the only webstore I have ever seen that actually sells Ad space.  But, that being said, they were more then kind to help promote in other ways and offer up the gift card.

Its amazing to me what a worldwide reach the design community has.  Our past winners have ranged from anywhere from Paris to Costa Rica to Italy to the states.  The coolest part is that we are able to see so many different design elements that are all inspired from different parts.

Anyways, keep buying boards and submitting designs.
